What a phenomenal year. Congratulations to IMVB Blue on their club record-setting 43 match winning streak this semester. While all Illini lament the ultimate loss in the title game, this team's achievements will forever remain in the record books.

The Orange team's season ended on a similarly sour note, but with equal optimism for next year. Despite placing a disappointing third, IMVB Orange had some big wins this season that no future team will ever be able to replicate.

From a personal standpoint, I would like to thank all the players, friends, and family who supported us on this most amazing journey from August to April. Doug, Pat and Miles were the finest officers a President could ever hope to have, though I am quite sure the 2008-09 board will do their best to prove that statement false. Congratulations again, good luck to seniors, and go Illinois!

Congratulations to Illinois White who placed a record-high third in the MCVA conference. The team cruised through pool play and the first round of the playoffs before facing season-long rival Western Illinois in the semis. Two hard fought games fell on the wrong side for the Illini, closing the most successful season in Illinois White's history.

Congratulations on a phenomenal year!

YOU CAN PUT 'EM ON THE BOARD!!! For the first time in Illinois Men's Volleyball history, all three teams won their tournaments on the same weekend, compiling an astounding 20-0 match and 40-1 game record.

The success began with Illinois White's rout of the Bradley tournament, where they stormed through pool play and the Gold bracket to face St. Ambrose JV. After dropping a challenging game 1, the Illini regrouped and annihilated the St. Ambrose squad to claim the first ever Illinois White tournament victory!

In Columbus, Ohio at the MIVA conference championships, the destruction continued. Illinois Orange blitzed teams on day one, outscoring their group opponents 200-114 in four easy matches. In Gold on Sunday, the Illini continue to cruise, stomping on Eastern Michigan while playing without any outsides or middles for the first game. The championship pitted the boys in blue against longtime rival UW Oshkosh-II, who fell in two games to Illinois Orange for the second time this year. Illinois Orange ends the official MIVA season not having dropped a single game.

In Division I and the MIVA championships, Illinois extended their winning streak to 35 matches. After breezing through a difficult group schedule that featured #3 Lakeland, Illinois dismantled teams early in Gold before actually being challenged by the host OSU team in the semifinals and Lakeland again for the crown.

The MIVA titles represent an unprecedented 5th straight DII championship for Illinois Orange and nicely complement their BTMVA title while Illinois Blue ran the streak to 2 straight MIVA DI titles and match their BTMVA tournament and regular season crowns.

Up next for IMVB are the MCVA conference championships (Illinois White) and the NIRSA National Championships. Keep fighting, Illini, and bring home some more hardware!

Chalk up another big tournament victory for Illinois Blue!! Both Illini Blue and Orange headed west for some fun in the Las Vegas sun and took on the best the West can offer. Both teams passed the test, with Illinois Blue topping UC Davis for the first ever IMVB tournament victory west of the Rockies. The win came in a dominating sweep after tighter victories against powerhouse Arizona A and a solid California-Berkeley.

Illinois Orange also performed admirably, finishing second in its pool before dropping a challenge match to the eventual runner up. In silver, the Illini had a rough first draw against UCF – the Hoosier-Illini runner-up – but took the Florida Mustache Men to three games. Ultimately, the sun wore out the boys in blue on day two of the tournament, with the trip ending in a three game loss to #18 Sacramento State.

Congratulations to both Illinois teams, and onwards to the MIVA conference championships!

May we all extend a hearty congratulations to the University of Illinois for completing another BTMVA sweep! Illinois Blue won its third consecutive Division I championship and dominated the competition, not dropping a single game en route to a tournament-clinching win over Michigan State. Congratulations to the U of I team for its domination of a revitalized BTMVA. Illinois Orange went undefeated in match play, maintaining its hold on the BTMVA Division II title.

IMVB wishes to salute all its athletes, as it feels that every member from the outside through the libero deserves an honor for his hard work and contributions to team success.

For Illinois Blue and Orange, it is now westward to Las Vegas for a transcontinental spring break showdown!

The first ever Illinois Exhibition was an unqualified success! Friends and family came to watch Illinois Blue bounce Purdue and Illinois Orange efficiently defeat Illinois State. As an encore, Blue played Orange, with Blue surviving a tough match.

Special thanks to Purdue and ISU for making the trip out here!

For the first time since 2003, a host of the Hoosier-Illini Classic is also the victor. A well-deserved congratulations to Illinois-Blue for a phenomenal HIC performance. After a solid Saturday in pool play, the Illini came out swinging Sunday in the Gold Bracket, tearing through Navy in the opening round. However, Ohio State in the quarterfinals proved a difficult opponent, pushing the Illini to the brink with game point in the third set before the Illini found a way to eke out the set.

From then on, the tournament was all-Illini all the time. The Boys in Blue shredded Lakeland in game 1 before enduring a stiffer challenge in game 2. The championship very much mirrored the semifinal match, with the cohosts dominating with aggressive serving, unshakable defense, monstrous blocking, and powerful hitting. Congratulations again on a great tournament.

Illini-Orange also traveled to the Hoosier-Illini Classic and had a very successful tournament. After some disappointing pool play matches, the Illini showed their muscle in bouncing Iowa State to Silver. The crossover round saw the Illini pitted against nationally ranked no. 6 Utah Valley State. A ticket to Gold awaited the winner while the loser would fall to silver. The Illini prevailed, though, dominating UVS in games 2 and 3.

Playoffs saw the Orange facing off against national no. 23 Marquette–and winning. The next match featured the now-streaking Illini against undefeated and no. 1 UW-Oshkosh. Despite a dominating game 1, the Illini fell in 3, tying for 9th.

Great efforts to all teams and congratulations on bringing home the hardware!

Congratulations to IMVB-Orange on their resounding success at the MIVA DII Playdate at MSU. Continuing their recent success in the state of Michigan, Illinois steamrolled all opposition to a 5-0, 10-0 match/game record at Michigan State. This completes a year in which the team did not lose so much as a game in the state of Michigan. The culmination of the playdate was an emphatic thrashing of UW Oshkosh-II, a well-respected and competitive opponent.

Similarly, IMVB-White traveled to Western Illinois and thumped their way to a 3rd place finish, falling to host WIU in the semifinals. Many congratulations on the success.

As the season progresses, continue to expect Illinois to progress at all three levels. Each team has high hopes for its conference tournament and has been working non-stop with end-of-season accolades in mind.

Congratulations to Illinois-Blue on their Big Ten Men's Volleyball Association league victory! The Illini went 8-1 in league play, falling only to Wisconsin in a let-down game before trouncing ranked Michigan State, Indiana, and Minnesota. While failing to garner the sweep, the Illini looked fantastic in a title clinching shellacking of Minnesota, winning 25-16, 25-9. Watch for a rematch on March 15 when all the BTMVA teams visit Champaign for the conference tournament.

Congratulations to Illinois-White on their strong showing at Iowa State this past weekend. Braving poor road conditions, the Illini swept through pool play and the first round of the playoffs before eventually falling in the second round of tournament play to Olivet.

While each of the three Illinois teams have had acceptable showings, thus far, all have quite a ways to go to match the success of first semester and their expectations of themselves.

Congratulations to Illini-Blue who took 3rd at the Oshkosh tournament, falling in a heartbreaker to the hosts in 3.

The Orange team also attended and lost 3 incredibly tight matches to top teams in pool play, including a thriller to reigning 2-time national champs Oshkosh in 3. They closed out the tournament with an old-fashioned win against Wisconsin.

Congratulations to the Blue team for a stellar performance at the Loyola Invitational. They took down club, USAV and varsity teams alike en route to a second place finish.

The Orange team performed admirably at Notre Dame, gritting out a brutal third game against Ball State to win 22-20, but falling to Indiana A in the semifinals.

The White team traveled to Ames, Iowa for the A-town throwdown and return with a chalice of silver. Enduring hours of corn to the far reaches of the Midwest, they won the silver division.

Congratulations to IMVB-Orange on their dominant victory at MSU Hardwood this past weekend. En route to a third consecutive Hardwood title, the team did not drop so much as a game, going 7-0, and 14-0. The team came out firing on bracket day, lighting up Wisconsin B in a defeat of epic proportions before continuing their methodical destruction of all comers. Orange will go to Notre Dame on 12/1to continue their stretch of dominance.

IMVB Blue faced a stiffer challenge, but won their pool handily. They fell in a tough playoff match to MSU, but are fired up and ready to take down the best competition of the semester at Loyola on 12/1.

Congratulations to the Blue team on their dominant tournament victory at the Hawkeye-Illini Invitational. After a rough opening, the team regaine its composure and obliterated every team they played, including varsity squads from St. Ambrose and Quincy. Kevin Deeke paced the team with 35 kills on the day, while Emmett Culligan and his crusty pink eye weren't far behind with 31.

Congratulations to the Blue, Orange, and White teams on a good Indiana tournament. The Blue team facing the hardest pool and the the toughest draw in the playoffs, exited in the quarterfinals with a loss to USAV - Brandon Kelly. The Orange team defeated the White team in the Gold Quarterfinals before losing to Illini-killer USAV - Brandon Kelly.

Nice job to all teams, but much work remains for all three teams.

Congratulations to both the Blue and Orange teams for their victories at the MIVA Championships. The Orange team won the Division II Championship for the 4th consecutive year with a three-game win over UW-Oshkosh 2. The first team split into two squads, with both teams ending up making the championship match and deciding to leave with a draw. The second team lost to one of the first team squads in the semi-finals, finishing in third place. Overall, this means Illinois took first, second, and third in this tournament. Great job guys.

BIG TEN CHAMPS!!!

Congrats to both the Illinois Orange and Blue teams on their Big Ten championships. The orange team destroyed the competition as they defended their title. The blue team finally took the next step and beat a good Michigan State team to capture their first title of this semester. Colin Johnson and Rob Tupuritis made the all tournament team. Eric Anderson also played great filling in for an injured Fabs. Nice work by all of the players this past weekend.

Next up MIVA championships, where the Illini will face some very tough competition with four of the top five teams in the nation. Lets take it to them.

Second semester has been going by fast, and we have not been able to update the website recently, so here is a quick summary of the spring.

Illinois played in the Big Ten round robin challange and won its first 8 matches. The then lost in a hard fought battle with Michigan State. The Illini finished the tournament second in the Big Ten.

After Big Tens, the Illini traveled east to Indiana University to play in the Hoosier-Illini tournament. On Saturday, the Illini won all four of their matches and Rob Tupuritis, Ryan Fabrizius and Steve Jefferies were all named to the All-Star Team. On Sunday the Illini faced a hot Notre Dame team and lost in their first round of playoffs. It was a tough loss, but the player learned a lot from it.

This Saturday the Illini will head up to Northwestern and play in the Big Ten tournament. They are the two seed and I expecting to bring home the championship. The orange team is also playing in the tournament this weekend, and are looking to defend their title from last season. Good luck this weekend guys, lets bring home two titles!

Posted on March 15th, 2006 at 12:20 am by Dave Deeke

The Illini headed up to Loyola Chicago to play a tournament against great competition. The Illini won their pool, defeating Quincy 1 in the process. The Illini's hopes of a title were crushed by Loyola in the quarter finals. The Illini placed 5 out of 20 teams.

Its been a while, but I thought that it was important to let all our fans know that Illinois Blue went to Michigan State and took second place in the biggest tournament of the Fall semester. The Illini lost in the championship game to Marquette. The Orange team played at Michigan State as well. The won the division 2 championship. Nice work everyone at Michigan State.

Nationals is over and the season is finished, but there were some great moments. Dan Kitchel gave the ALL MIVA awards out: Jon Bull honorable mention, Joe Hammer, Carl Schmidt and Dave Deeke ALL MIVA and Danny Falk MIVA libro of the year. At Nationals: Jon Bull, Greg Noonkester and Dave Deeke made the All-American team. Joe Hammer had his neck sucked on my a drunk chick before the tournament even started. The whole team went out with their families for a nice steak dinner, thank you to all the fans throughout the year. During the Cal Poly match, the Dragons were "doing the Bull Dance". After the entire tournament was over, we celebrated the birth of the Hebrew Hammer. We hung out with the guys from UW Oshkosh. Those guys are some crazy dudes. Fabs asked Jon Bull, "Hey where can we go to smoke?" The Birdman was drinking Champaign and smoking a cigar with the guys down stairs. Big Brandon and Rat tail were just handing out beers to anyone in sight. Some wild times with the guys. I would like to thank everyone on my team this year. You guys made it fun to play. I hope that everyone has a good summer and hopefully eveyone keeps playing.

Posted on April 19th, 2005 at 3:12 pm by Dave Deeke

The Dragons went to Ball State to play in the MIVA championships and of course won the tournament. In pool play, they won the first match against Wright State. During the match the Right Side was so afraid of the Dragons, he fell down instead of hitting. It was priceless. The Dragons played like poop against Miami B. In the championship the Dragons played UW-Osh. They won in three games. Congrats to the Illinois Orange team on a good season. Lets make it a great season with a national title.

The White Team had its final tournament this past weekend at the University of Chicago. Once again playing with an abbreviated roster, they cruised to a 5th place finish, losing to Western Illinois University in the Quarterfinals. The team was lead by outstanding performances from TJ "I'm out of here at 4 so I can watch the game" Dexter and Mark "Eurodance" Tkaczuk. This closed a record setting year for the team that included two nice upsets: the first at the Illini Inivtite over Illinois Orange and the second at Western over perennial powerhouse Augustana.

Posted on April 3rd, 2005 at 6:49 pm by

The Orange team played at the Big Ten Championships for the first time ever. It was held at IMPE at the University of Illinois. Ethan Lippmann and Dave Deeke dominated from the service line. Lippmann scored 11 straight points against Michigan. Deeke served the Dragons back into the game against Michigan State and slammed the door on their dream of a Big Ten Championship in game two. Jon Bull stepped up and set the attack because of an injury to Greg Noonkester. Special mention also goes out to Justin Levon, Joe Hammer and Paul Johnson who all made all tounament team. Congrats on Big Ten Champs!

Posted on March 21st, 2005 at 12:28 am by Dave Deeke

The White Team took 3rd this past weekend at the Augustana Invite, losing in the semifinals to the host team. Going 2-2, the team had flashes of brilliance, despite the abbreviated roster.

Posted on March 17th, 2005 at 12:46 am by

The Orange team (Dragons) went to Earlham and dominated the compitition. Wright State took them to three in their first match of the day. In the final match of the day, the Dragons took revenge against Miami (only team to beat them in MIVA), defeating them 25-17 in both games. Ethan Lippmann was on fire from the service line, racking up 5 aces.
